ASPIRE 2023 Annual Report

Advancing Sustainability through Powered Infrastructure for Roadway Electrification (ASPIRE) Research Center

Overview

THE ISSUE

ASPIRE’s directors contracted with Emily to create their first short-form printed version of their annual report. This report would feel and look professional and approachable, while highlighting their key achievements and findings of the past year.  In past years, this report was over 700 pages of data and charts in Word.

01

OUR APPROACH

Emily Bunnell worked in tandem with a copywriter, Todd Logan, the ASPIRE directors and internal team, to create a custom 140 page printed and digital report to share with the National Science Foundation as part of their grant-approval process.

02

WHAT WE DID

The final annual report represents an aesthetic and approachable format of key findings of the ASPIRE team and helped to secure another year of grant funding and continued research in the sustainable electric transportation industry.

03

A Fundraising Tool

A key goal of the annual report was to convey annual data from the research center in a clear and compelling way – so it could be presented to the National Science Foundation as a primary tool for deciding their next multi-million dollar grant.

Finding the Heart in the Data
A major part of this project was transforming mountains of data into a highlight reel of measurable progress, promising trajectories and human-centric goals.

Creating a Clear Roadmap

Working with the directors, the creative team developed language and charts to illustrate how every project task fit into macro-level objectives.

Rapid Turnaround

Emily designed a 140 page interactive digital PDF and print-ready PDF in under 30 days.

Project Outcome

"Emily did an absolutely outstanding job and our entire team enjoyed working with her and are very pleased with the results.”

Regan Zane, ASPIRE Director

Funding Secured

The annual renewal of the ASPIRE award was based on the annual report and a site visit review. The center received a “top band” review with no restrictions, resulting in a continuation of funding for the next year. This puts the center in a excellent position for a more formal renewal year later this year, which will unlock the next 5 years of funding.

Amplifying the Mission

The annual report effectively and persuasively told the story of ASPIRE’s mission: to improve health and quality of life for everyone by catalyzing sustainable and equitable electrification across the transportation industries.
