Overview

THE ISSUE

Sundance is best known for its film festival, but the Institute supports artists through nearly a dozen additional programs, building a deep community of storytellers and uplifting marginalized voices. To fulfill its mission of discovering and developing independent film, theater and new media artists globally, the Institute needed to raise awareness of its full suite of programs and, as a nonprofit, to generate financial support.

OUR APPROACH

We unified the Institute’s visual identity, creating cohesion across programs to better amplify the brand, and we developed awareness-building campaigns that showcased the impact of the organization’s work.

WHAT WE DID

Kelly created a marketing strategy and directed the development of several brand and event campaigns. One campaign, #FromSundance, was developed in partnership with Emily, who designed a series of ads that highlighted the Institute’s alumni and the ways in which their films reverberated in culture. Kelly and Emily also produced annual reports that brought into focus the immense impact of the Institute’s work.

Project Outcome

Growth in Revenue and New Artists

Major fundraising events exceeded their revenue goals, and the amplification of the Institute’s programs helped artists access the pipeline—three of the Institute’s programs saw a 20%+ rise in Artist Lab submissions in one year.

Emily’s leadership, creativity, efficiency, and easy-going positivity make her a joy to work with. As Marketing Director for Sundance Institute, I’ve partnered with Emily on various projects including last year’s annual report and our end-of-year giving campaign. Emily is able to take a project’s vision and bring it to life through her creative direction and design, and to do so easily. In a time-constrained world, I love that I can give her the creative freedom to work independently and know that what she delivers is exactly what we need – a visual language that’s on message and achieves the desired vision. I highly recommend working with Emily – a true pleasure.
